a half moon hung among the branches
and behind the trees stained velvet sky
sent the children home but also sirens
they came in droves learning the approach
modified for pairs of teenage jackals
the tiniest possible skeletons and wizards
we could monitor the door throughout our wanderings
along the path that winds between the trees
but no one tripped the light above the steps
rabbit and seal parents confessed their plan
to consume the bounty of their charges' words
bypassing both threat and vulnerability
